Oil and chalk on canvas
48'' x 36'' (122cm x 91cm)

This piece and others like it come from an ongoing series of chance-based works created by selecting mark types at random. This generative methodology serves as an alternative way to approach “found” marks in my practice. The sequence below records the process for this painting.

Over oil-primed start with ultramarine chalk lines and print remnant motif in black oil paint…twelve steps from copy a smudge to transfer a palette

01-Copy a smudge
02-Draw a line
03-Scrape into wet paint
04-Scrape into wet paint
05-Paint around a block

07-Spray paint
08-Closed shape
09-Copy a print remnant
10-Draw a line
11-Scrape into wet paint
12-Transfer a palette
